Volumetric Weight Calculator

Find the volumetric and chargeable weight of your parcel: courier (L×B×H ÷ 5000) or truck and train transport (CFT), in cm or inch, for many boxes at once.

Volumetric Weight Calculator for Courier Parcels

Couriers charge for the space a parcel takes as well as for what it weighs. A light but big box is billed on its volumetric weight, so a pillow or a soft toy can cost as much to ship as a heavy item. This free volumetric weight calculator shows you the weight the courier will actually charge.

For courier parcels the formula is length × breadth × height in centimetres divided by 5000, which is what most Indian couriers and Meesho, Flipkart and Amazon use. Some surface services divide by 4000 and air cargo by 6000, so you can pick the divisor from your own rate card. The chargeable weight is the bigger of the actual and volumetric weight, rounded up to the next 0.5 kg slab for each box.

Add as many box sizes as you ship, in cm or inch, with the number of boxes of each. You see the volumetric weight, actual weight and chargeable weight per box and in total, and whether the parcel is bulky, in which case a smaller box or a snug polybag lowers the charge.

CFT Calculator for Truck and Train Transport

Transporters who carry goods by truck, train or part-load (PTL) usually charge by CFT, or cubic feet. One CFT is length × breadth × height in inches divided by 1728. The transporter then counts a fixed weight for every CFT, most often 6 kg, sometimes 8 or 10 kg.

Choose Transport, enter your carton sizes and the kg per CFT your transporter uses, and the calculator shows the total CFT, the volumetric weight and the chargeable weight of the whole load, rounded up to the next kg. Use it to compare transporter quotes or to plan how many cartons fit in one booking.

Frequently asked questions

How is volumetric weight calculated for courier?

Length × breadth × height in cm ÷ 5000. A 30 × 20 × 10 cm box is 6000 ÷ 5000 = 1.2 kg, charged as 1.5 kg.

What is CFT in transport?

CFT is cubic feet: L × B × H in inches ÷ 1728. At 6 kg per CFT, a 24 × 12 × 12 inch carton (2 CFT) is charged as 12 kg.

Which weight does the courier charge?

The bigger of the actual weight and the volumetric weight, rounded up to the courier’s slab.
