Business Registration Documents & Fees

Pick your state, business type and registrations (GST, trademark, Udyam, IEC, FSSAI, Shop Act) — see the documents, government fee, time and official portal.

Documents Required for GST Registration

GST registration is the first step for most online sellers in India, because selling to other states through Amazon, Flipkart or Meesho needs a GSTIN. The good news is that GST registration is free on the official GST portal. The documents required for GST registration depend on your business type.

A proprietorship needs the proprietor’s PAN, Aadhaar and photo. A partnership firm needs the firm’s PAN, the partnership deed and the PAN, Aadhaar and photo of every partner. An LLP or private limited company needs its PAN, certificate of incorporation and the details of its partners or directors, with a resolution authorising the signatory. Every business also needs proof of the business address, such as an electricity bill, and a rent agreement with the owner’s NOC if the place is rented, plus a cancelled cheque or bank statement.

Trademark, Udyam, IEC and FSSAI Registration Fees

Besides GST, many ecommerce sellers need a few more registrations, and the government fees are lower than most people expect. Udyam (MSME) registration is completely free on udyamregistration.gov.in. An Import Export Code from DGFT costs a one-time ₹500 and is needed to import stock or sell abroad.

Trademark registration protects your brand and unlocks brand programs on marketplaces. The government fee for e-filing is ₹4,500 per class for individuals, startups and small enterprises with a Udyam certificate, and ₹9,000 per class for other businesses. An FSSAI food registration starts at ₹100 a year for small food businesses, with State and Central licences costing more.

Shop and Establishment registration is a state law, so its fee and portal depend on your state — for example, Bihar uses the Bihar Service Plus portal. The tool shows each fee, typical professional charges, time and the official link, so you can plan the total cost of starting your online business before you apply.
