Transport Weight Calculator

Find the weight a truck, train or part-load transporter will charge for your cartons, from size and actual weight.

Transport Weight Calculator for Truck, Train and PTL

When you send stock to a warehouse, a wholesaler or another city by truck, train or part-load service, the transporter charges for the chargeable weight of the consignment, not just what the scale shows. This transport weight calculator works out that chargeable weight for you.

Pick Transport, enter every carton size with its actual weight and count, and set the kg per CFT from your transporter’s quote. You get the total CFT, the volumetric weight, the actual weight and the higher of the two, rounded up to the next kg.

Lower Your Transport Charges

If the volumetric weight is higher, you are paying to move empty space. Use cartons that fit the goods, pack them full, and combine small cartons into larger ones where you can. For small parcels that go to customers, switch to Courier above: couriers use a different formula, L × B × H in cm ÷ 5000.

Frequently asked questions

How is transport weight calculated?

CFT (L × B × H in inch ÷ 1728) × kg per CFT, compared with the actual weight; the higher one is charged.

Is transport weight the same as courier weight?

No. Couriers use L × B × H in cm ÷ 5000 per parcel; transporters use CFT for the whole load.
