CFT Calculator for Transport

Carton size in inches → CFT (cubic feet) and the weight your truck or train transporter will charge.

What is CFT in Transport?

CFT means cubic feet, the space your cartons take in a truck or a train wagon. Road transporters and part-load (PTL) services in India charge by CFT because a truck fills up by space long before it reaches its weight limit with light goods like clothes, plastic or packaging.

CFT = length × breadth × height in inches ÷ 1728, because one cubic foot is 12 × 12 × 12 = 1728 cubic inches. A 24 × 18 × 12 inch carton is 5184 ÷ 1728 = 3 CFT. If you measure in cm, the calculator converts it for you.

How to Use the CFT Calculator

Enter each carton size with the number of cartons of that size. The CFT calculator adds up the total CFT of the load and multiplies it by the kg per CFT your transporter uses, usually 6 kg, sometimes 8 or 10 kg. The higher of this volumetric weight and the actual weight is what you pay for.

Use it before booking to compare two transporters fairly: one quoting a low rate per kg but 10 kg per CFT can cost more than one with a higher rate and 6 kg per CFT.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate CFT?

Multiply length × breadth × height in inches and divide by 1728. 24 × 18 × 12 inch = 3 CFT.

How do I calculate CFT in cm?

Multiply L × B × H in cm and divide by 28,317 (cubic cm in one cubic foot), or switch the calculator to cm.

How many kg is 1 CFT?

Most road transporters count 6 kg per CFT; some use 8 or 10 kg. Ask yours.
