Air Cargo Volumetric Weight Calculator

Volumetric weight for air cargo and air freight, using the ÷ 6000 divisor airlines use, for many cartons at once.

Air Cargo Volumetric Weight

Airlines and air freight forwarders charge for the larger of the actual and volumetric weight of your cartons. For air cargo the usual formula is L × B × H in cm ÷ 6000, so 6000 cubic cm counts as 1 kg. Express air couriers often use 5000 instead.

Example: a 50 × 40 × 30 cm carton is 60,000 cubic cm, or 10 kg volumetric weight. Ten of them are 100 kg, even if they weigh 60 kg together.

Compare Air Freight Quotes

Enter every carton size and count to get the total chargeable weight, then multiply by the rate per kg in each quote. Check whether the forwarder uses 6000 or 5000 — the same shipment can be 20% heavier on paper with 5000.
